Robin Denney

I began attending St. Luke's five years ago. I have participated at St. Luke's as an Acolyte, LEM, worship committee member, and altar guild member. I was a member of the Episcopal Young Adult Service Corps, and spent one year serving as a missionary in Liberia, West Africa, where I taught agriculture at an Episcopal college. I remain involved with the mission personnel office of the national church center, and hope to return to the mission field abroad within the year. If elected, I would only be able to fulfill one year in this office. I love St. Luke's, and also see our un-tapped potential. As a member of the vestry, I hope to challenge us as a community to celebrate who we are, and to reach beyond ourselves.

I was born in Chadron, Nebraska 50 years ago, and I was the middle child of 5. When I was 2, a miracle happened in our family. Our pregnant mother contracted polio and was taken away from her young husband and 3 young children. After months in the Veterans Hospital, hundreds of miles away, both healthy mother and child returned home. Since then, no one in our family has ever doubted the power of prayer and faith. My only son, Corndog, and I have had the pleasure of living in Templeton for the past 12 years and were thrilled to find St. Luke's 7 years ago. Corndog was confirmed at St. Luke's and also participated in the ordination of Caro Hall. This church has been a treasure for us, and for that we are grateful.

Elizabeth (Liz) Harned

I was born in Joplin, Missouri. My father's work took us to Swampscott, Massachusetts and Ypsilanti, Michigan. I graduated from high school and completed Vocational Nurse training there. In 1980 I moved to Glendale, California and eventually to Atascadero in 1987. I worked for San Luis Obispo County General Hospital in the Family Care Center in Atascadero as the telephone triage nurse until 2001. I reentered school in 2003 obtaining an Associate Degree in General Studies from Cuesta College in 2005. This year I plan to complete my Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at Columbia College.

Both my parents' and grandparents' background was in the Methodist Church. My mother transferred the family to the Episcopal Church when I was a very young girl. I remember the buzz of the Sunday liturgy in my ears as I struggled to remain quiet during service. Throughout my life I have sought spiritual growth and enlightenment in different venues. I spent many years in a fundamentalist, non-denominational evangelical church. While I believe that the scripture study and discussion promoted by that church was of great benefit to me, much of the fundamentalist view conflicted with the God of my experience. When that church closed down, I decided to try St. Luke's again and felt immediately at home. I believe deeply in the welcoming hand that is extended by St. Luke's, in the open-minded seeking that is the practice of the church and feel honored to be asked to serve on the vestry.

John Bergen

is a lifelong Episcopalian. He grew up in New York City and, as a child, was a member of the congregation of the Church of the Heavenly Rest, where he was confirmed and sang as a boy soprano in the all-male choir. After graduating from college, John served as an English teacher and administrator at an independent boarding school in Watertown, CT, where he attended Christ Church and served on its vestry. In 1976 he came to California to head an independent day school in Pasadena. There he attended All Saints Church and sang for 13 years in its Canterbury Choir. In 1981 he left education and became a fund raising consultant for non-profit organizations, working for a national firm with offices in Stamford, CT and Newport Beach. In 1996 he and his wife Hannah, who has been a school teacher and administrator, retired and moved to Eureka, where he attended Christ Church, sang in its choir and served as Vestry member and Senior Warden. John and Hannah moved to Templeton, in November of 2004, to be closer to their children. They have a blended family that includes five daughters and four grandchildren and an aged doxie-terrier mix named McDuff.

Lori Johnson

I grew up in Southern Calif. I moved to San Luis Obispo County right out of High School. My family roots trace back five generations in this county. Both of my parents were raised here. I am a single mom and my children are Bill, 20yrs and Steven, 11yrs. We live in Santa Margarita, on property owned by my parents, who live next door to us. I work at San Luis Obispo United Methodist Church as the secretary. I have been there two yrs. I served one term on the St Luke's vestry from 2003-2005. I have assisted at St Luke's as a Sunday School teacher. I have participated in the Christmas Bazaar, Dinners in the Park, The Polling Place Bar be Queue, among other fun and worth while events. Attending this Church with my family has given all of us a sense of belonging and love. I enjoy worshiping and working with the family here at St Luke's .

Jan Hickok

I have been a member of St. Luke's for over 30 years and it has been like a second home to me. I have met, and have, and have had wonderful friendships with so many people here through the years. I have seen God at work here in so many and it challenges and keeps me seeking His will in my life. In recent years I have prayed and sought advice about being a part of the vestry and did not feel it was the right time. My life now seems to be in a place where I feel I can give the time and help that is needed to be an effective vestry member. I am, and have been, an Altar Guild member for the past 30 years. In the past I have served on the Vestry (30 years ago). I have taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School and served on various committees and fund raising events. Jim and I have 3 children and 6 grandchildren and have been married 49 years. I have been retired for 4 years after having worked for the Atascadero School District for 34 years as a Teacher Aide.

Barbara Miller

I have attended St. Luke's for 19 years! Wow. During that time I have been on Vestry, serving two years as Bishop's Warden, I have been Stewardship chair and part of the committee, and an alternate and delegate to Diocesan convention. I am the Altar Guild leader, a LEM, part of the worship team for the Taize service and pledge secretary. On the Diocesan level I am the SLO Deanery representative to Diocesan Council and a member of the Convention Planning Team and the Conference Planning Team. When I finished my term on vestry, 10 years ago, I thought I would be back on in a few years. Well, i,t never seemed to be the right time until now. I am looking forward to being part of the Vestry leadership group.

Shelley Krause

I was born in Bakersfield, CA. and have lived within a 100 mile radius my whole life. I love the Central Coast and have been here since 1977. I have been a member of St. Luke's since January 1994. When I was younger, I attended a Baptist church. The Episcopal Church is quite a different atmosphere, but I fell in love with St. Luke's and the people right away. I married Jim Krause in June of 1995. We each have two children from previous marriages, Angie Barrett (Krause), David Krause, Brian and Patrick Yeager. My passions are God, family, horses, camping and fishing. I am also known to holler at a good football game.

I served on the Bishop's Committee (Vestry) in the mid 90's. Currently, I am a Lay Eucharist Minister, a member of the Daughter's of the King, the Worship Committee, Altar Guild, Hospitality Group and help lead the Women's Bible study. I look forward to serving you on the Vestry again.

Sharon Munroe

I came to St. Luke's by invitation in the winter of 1993. My daughters were baptized here that fall and this has been my spiritual home ever since. The community of St. Luke's has seen me through many years of college, two major surgeries and a difficult divorce. You have also shared the joy of my grandchildren and rejoiced in my new marriage. In all those years I have supported the community of St. Luke's in many ways. I have been an office assistant (pre-Alice); I've done liturgy scheduling, coffee hour, ushering, (money) counting, youth group support, Sunday school teaching, and backpacking. My interests have run through stewardship, outreach, Prism weight loss, being-the-inviting-church, and engaging young people in the worship of our Lord. I now think a position on the vestry is a natural progression of my connection to the community of St. Luke's and this may well be the ideal time in my life. As my career seems to be settling in, I find a need to reconnect with my inner self - the deeply spiritual part - that listens for God's guidance and responds to His call. I would be honored to represent my fellow parishioners as a member of the St. Luke's vestry as we forge our way further into the new millennium and decide our course for the next several years.
